The Far Wall & Back Corner

The rear corner of the dojo holds the makiwara (punching boards), kicking shields, and the weapons rack. Next to the weapons rack is a framed kanji linen with pictures from our first annual Fall Seminar. The kanji character is the symbol "Wa" or "Harmony" - selected to represent the coming together of karateka from different dojo in the spirit of cooperation and open exchange of ideas. To the right of this picture is a hanging scroll, purchased in Kamakura, Japan, by Shihan Baker. The scroll depicts an eagle and a tiger.
